Free tools for the math behind India's packaged food brands
Launching a packaged food brand in India involves a specific set of numbers — distributor margins, GST on food categories, FSSAI shelf-life requirements, co-packer batch scaling — that general-purpose financial tools handle poorly. There's no single place that combines all of them in one India-specific context without requiring a sign-up, a subscription, or a consultant.
FMCGMath was built to fix that. Every calculator is pre-set with India's trade structures in mind: MRP-based margin calculations, CGST/SGST/IGST breakdown, FSSAI-aligned shelf-life categories, and recipe scaling that accounts for bulk ingredient unit conversions.
Founders building D2C food brands. Product managers pricing new SKUs. Finance teams cross-checking distributor margins. Factory managers preparing co-packer briefs. Anyone in India's packaged food or FMCG supply chain who needs a quick, accurate number without calling their CA or opening a spreadsheet.
Per-unit P&L across D2C, distributor, and modern trade channels. Models MRP → net manufacturer realization with GST, distributor and retailer margins built in.
Add or remove GST for any slab — 0%, 5%, 12%, 18%, 28%. Shows CGST/SGST and IGST split. Includes an HSN reference table for common Indian food categories.
Directional best-before date estimates for 20+ Indian FMCG categories, using food science models. For early packaging and storage decisions before accredited lab testing.
Scale any recipe from 1g to 1000kg. Handles ingredient unit conversion, waste factor, and cost per unit. Built for co-packer briefing preparation.
Model per-unit COGS at a contract manufacturer. Includes CM charge, packaging materials, quality testing, and freight — with a volume scale grid at 1×/2×/5×/10× MOQ.
FOB, CIF, and landed cost calculations for Indian food exporters across 16 APEDA categories, with INR and USD output and a full price waterfall.
Interactive checklist against FSS (Labelling and Display) Regulations 2020. Covers 20 items across 8 sections with conditional rules based on product type.
Every tool runs entirely in your browser. No numbers are sent to any server. There are no accounts, no session tracking for input data, and no logs of what you calculate. The calculations use India-specific constants — trade channel margins sourced from industry practice, GST slabs as per the GST Council schedule, FSSAI shelf-life categories from the Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Regulations, and APEDA commodity classifications for export pricing.
Where a calculation requires judgment (such as shelf-life, which depends heavily on actual formulation and processing conditions), the tool clearly states its assumptions and recommends accredited lab testing before commercial use. We do not present directional estimates as regulatory sign-off.
FMCGMath is not a substitute for professional advice. The tools are designed for quick estimates and scenario modelling during early-stage product development, pricing decisions, and planning. For tax filings, regulatory submissions, or financial statements, always work with a qualified CA, food technologist, or regulatory consultant who can account for your specific product and business situation.
